Community Pharmacy Design and Fit-Out, Hogarth (Chemists) Ltd
Located on the busy Crow Road thoroughfare in Glasgow’s West End, Hogarth Pharmacy is a long-established business.
Owned and managed by Mhairi Speirs, the Hogarth Pharmacy name has been part of the community for over 70 years.
When considering the new fit-out, Mhairi was keen that the pharmacy would still be recognisable through a design that would modernise but retain much of its trademark traditional features.
In keeping with the client’s vision, Retail Design Consultants created a pharmacy design and fit-out that has seamlessly blended the old with the new, resulting in vastly improved ergonomics and efficiencies in day-to-day operations.
Terry Cuthill of Retail Design Consultants, experts in community pharmacy design and fit-out, commented:
“It is a small pharmacy, so the challenge was to deliver a design and fit-out that would give Hogarth’s a more streamlined layout and provide a much better working environment.
“As well as creating an easily accessible consultation room, we increased the size of the dispensary with additional workstations and created a dedicated prescription storage area.
“Mhairi wished to retain the external fascia, which was refurbished and the internal stepped timber window display was sanded back and revarnished to retain the traditional appearance of the original shopfront.
“Internally, all the units have a traditional wood grain finish, again reflecting Mhairi’s vision for the new design and fit-out to mirror the traditional look and feel of the pharmacy.

“From initial design to completion, I can’t thank Retail Design Consultants enough. It has completely transformed our workspace along with managing to retain the character which was important to me.
“I was also very pleased with project management of all trades on site and appreciated the stress-free transition into the temporary dispensary while the works were carried out.
“I am absolutely delighted and beyond thrilled with the outcome of the refit. The space we have now is fantastic, and I’m so pleased with the final look and how it has all come together.”
